The manger this year stood out to me the most. It’s creaky, rough wood held the savior of the world. What a broken world to give the son of God a bed that was meant to feed animals? Lowly creatures who lived in a stable, smelled rotten, and were a filthy mess. How could God let such a thing happen?
But like most things, God uses the unexpected to draw out his unfathomable love for us. The manger being made of wood shows why Jesus was born–to die. He was born to die for us on a cross made of wood, the birth and the cross are not separate but rather intimately strung together. We are the lowly creatures who are starving, dying to be fed the bread of Life. We live in a stable that smells, we are a mess and reek of sin, distrust and brokenness. Yet, God still chose to enter into that stable. He still chooses to enter into our hearts.
This Christmas Season (Yes it actually lasts 12 days contrary to belief), open your heart to Jesus in silence. Let him come into your stable, your mess. Let Him tell you of the worth you are to Him, do not be afraid. He has come to save you.
